Biography
20 WPM Extra - Have been a licensed amateur radio operator for over 40 years.
Hardcore CW operator. I do not use a code reader for receiving CW or a keyboard for sending it. I do it the old-fashioned way, which requires actual operating skills!
I am the first licensed amateur radio operator to hold this call, which I received in 1977. CW DXCC #857; 5-Band WAS #458; 160 Meter WAS #142. Trustee and Founder, Tulsa DX Association, W3ZZ.
Professor, Fire & Emergency Medical Services, Tulsa Community College (ret'd 2013) with degrees in fire science, psychology, and public safety executive leadership. Tulsa Fire Dept. Chief Officer (ret'd 1998). Graduate, National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program (1993). U.S. Military veteran (USAF radar technician 1960s, and USAR Communications NCO 1970s/80s); former Civil Air Patrol Officer; former Tulsa Police Officer; licensed private pilot. Certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician; Emergency Medical Technician; Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF); Fire Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer; Arson Investigator; Law Enforcement Officer; Fire Service Instructor; Online Instructor; and Online Course Developer.
QSL cards are welcomed and appreciated. I like paper QSLs. I find them to be nostalgic reminders of the many nice QSOs I have had and the DX that I have worked over the years.
QSL via K5WG (QSL Bureau or direct). I am also on ClubLog.
Stateside QSLs - SASEs are appreciated but are not required.
Amateur Radio Callsign Research
I have assembled a substantial collection of U.S. amateur radio callbooks, from the 1920s to the present, and am conducting historical amateur radio callsign research for amateurs (and others) who contact me and request it. I still need a few U.S. callbooks to complete my collection. If you have any U.S. callbooks for sale, please contact me with a picture of the book and the price.
