Biography
SWL AT AGE 11 IN 1957 W S38E from Sears & Roebuck for $37.50. Spider web ant at 50' w telescoping drillpipe from oilfield for support.
My "Elmer" was Bob, W5TCQ, RIP. He helped me get my novice call, KN5SNA, in September, 1958 and my Conditional, K5SNA, in March, 1959. I knew him and saw him and even operated from his shack throughout his life. I will forever be grateful for all his kindness to a runny-nosed kid taking up his Saturday mornings showing/helping me build a DX40 and a Q multiplier after having gotten me through novice and conditional exams. The best way to show that appreiation is to pass on the kindness to today's newcomers.
Although it's all good, and I've operated every mode from AM on 11 meters when it was still a ham band, as well as SSB, Fm, CW, Rtty, since then, and every band from 160 to 6 and 2, and been a net member and been DX as XE2/K5SNA, ZF2NA, P40NA & V47NA, I still like CW Dx the best, but Rtty has fewer players and better chances of snagging that rare one, like the Central African Republic,TL0A, precisely because there are fewer stations on that mode.
Ragchewing is fun too, if I can coax the guy at the other end not to qrt after giving me an rst and describing his rx es ant.
Give me a call if you hear me QRV.
73,
Larry, K5SNA
