Biography

I was born in Sioux City Iowa, we lived on a small farm until we moved to California. I started school in the 4th grade in Pomona California. Graduated High School in 1968, attended Jr College for one year. I had a very low draft number so I decided to join the military. I was flying at the time working on my Private Pilot’s License so I looked into joining the Army as a Helicopter pilot. The Army recruiter talked me out of that idea so I joined the Navy. I was trained as a AT (Aviation Electronics Technician) worked in AIMD where I learned to repair avionics equipment down to the component level. After my tour was over, I returned to California and landed a job at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). I spent one year then started my career with Siemens Medical systems. I spent 25 years with Siemens. During this time, I finished college with a degree in business management. I ended my employment with Siemens as an executive. I finished my working career at SimplexGrinnell. I retired in 2007. My hobbies include building guitars, building tube guitar amps, flight simulation, and some wood working.

I received my Technician licenses in September of 2021, my General two weeks after and then my Extra on September 28, 2021. As of this writing I am new to the hobby. My first radio was a Baofeng GT-5R and a XIEGU G90. I also have two Heathkit “TOWER” 2 meter AM transceivers that I have restored. Looking forward meeting a lot of people out there in the ether.I have added a ICOM IC-7300 and a ID-5100 to my rig, made some DX contacts right out of the box.
