Biography
First licensed with the novice class as KN4KSV during August 1956, when I was eleven (11) years old, and upgraded my license to the General Class as K4KSV during summer 1957 and added a 3-element tri-band beam during 1958, which helped me to better under benefits of working DX, which continues to be strong interest of mine.
Also, I developed intense interest in propagation of electromagnetic radiation within the atomosphere of Earth and in the effects of Sun spots have on our atmosphere, which lead me to a career in physics with specific expertise in laser beam propagation and their many uses. Utimately, I earned a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Georgia and was hired as an assistant professor of physics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) on September 1973.
During the next 10 years, I allocated my time between professional development, raising a family, and further developing my knowledge and practice of amateur radio. By 1984, I had earned two ARRL DXCC certificates at 221 confirmed countries, but professional and family responsibilities assumed most of my time until my retirement in September 2015, when I became an active DX seeker with a total now of 277 countries worked and with 267 confirmed, as described in more details on LoTW and ClubLog.
During 2018, I have established DXCC status on 28 Aug 2018 for 10M, 15M, and 20M based on QSL and LoTW confirmations. These ARRL certificates are shown on my QRZ page. I have also focused on increasing my DXCC contacts and confirmation on 40M to 107/84 and on 80M to 37/30.
During 2019, I will work to complete DXCC on 40M and on increasing my DXCC contacts on 80M.
73's and good DX-ing
