Biography

Started SWL in 1966. Had an old hallicrafters receiver back then which wasn't really that old. My cousin Jim Yukna K2SNP really got me hooked later on and I have been at it ever since. I lic'd as a novice in March 17th, 1981 at the Philadelphia field office. My call was KA2RUF. I upgraded to general. N2ESQ about a year later and move to Missouri in 2006 and changed my call to KC0WFA. I upgraded on additional time to extra class in 2013 and now am AD0GC. I have done aeronautical mobile from a Boeing 757 during the Hatti Earth quake to which my company, Continental Airlines, provided air transport of medical supplies and to evacuate residents. I kept in touch with family back in Missouri on HF from 30,000 feet above Hatti. I changed my call to honor a very close friend and brother. William Slapin. Bill and I go way back. We had participated in cw contests often. His station was the best. All Collins gear and a 125’ self supporting tower. 40 meter mono band beam as well as 10,15,and 20 meters. Bill is now sk and I miss him sorely.
