Biography

Received Novice and General class licence in 1962, upgraded to Extra in 2012
Call letters from 1962-2014 WA2WHV.

First QTH, River Edge, NJ, moved to Norwood, NJ in 1963. Eico 720 + homebrew modulator, SX-110

Built 813 "KW" in 1963 with 811 plate modulator

Setup a rig in my barracks at K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI in 1971, worked all CW Heath DX-40 and HQ 110

I was also a member of AF MARS at K.I. Sawyer and taught a class for people who wanted to get their novice license including code practice.

Setup Ten-Tec Omni-D after moving to Hopatcong, NJ - mounted TA-33 beam on tripod on roof. Still have that transceiver.

Moved to Hamilton Square, NJ and setup rig there. First time got on 2m packet.

Read about SDR and Flex in two issues of Monitoring times and got the Flex-3000 in 2012.

Motivation for Flex was not just that I liked the idea of a DSP, but because I could get the same features in a radio than a much more expensive transceiver.

I was into 160 meter AM with two broadcast transmitters around 2000. They sounded beautiful on the air with the Gates mixer and RE27 microphone. Went through a whole nostalgic stage of boat-anchors. Had two SX-28s, two Valiants and a bunch of other tube stuff.
I passed that stage and decided I wanted to "downsize". I sold almost all the boat anchors at Sussex county hamfest over a period of a few years.

At Middletown, NJ. Rig is Flex-6500, Linear Amp is Elecraft KPA500, use external audio equalizer and processing with Electrovoice RE27 Microphone.

7/7/2014 Applied for new Vanity call K2JHV.
7/25/2014 FCC approved new call.
7/29/2014 Received new license which was also automatic renewal.
