Biography

I was first licensed as KN1EIN in January 1958 while teaching in the Signal School, Ft. Monmouth, NJ. I eventually upgraded to Extra Class in 1961 and obtained all commercial FCC licenses except the a/c endorsement.

My profession was mainly as a technical writer. My last 18 years as a writer was with Digital Equipment Corp. Following my retirement in 1992, I did some consulting work through 1999.

I've been married for nearly 67 years, have 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. My eldest son is Leonard, KA1LOR. We live with our son Steven.

I enjoyed DXing. so when the opportunity came to request 1x2 calls in 1975, I requested K1DX and was awarded the call.

Before moving to Florida, I met my DXing goals by getting onto the Honor Roll. I have also been awarded CQ's entry-level five Band WAZ, and earned ARRL's five band DXCC (plus all WARC bands), and DXCC Challenge. It's been fun!

Equipment

Currently, I mainly use an ic-705 and an ic-7300 and not the equipment shown in the photo. My antenna is a 20m Isotron up about 8 ft. It is certainly height disadvantaged. I also use a loop antenna.
