Biography

Hi,

My name is Graham an I live in the Town of Caerphilly in South Wales, United Kingdom.

I first became interested in Radio at 21:45 UTC on 7th June 1978! - How do I remember the Date & Time so well, it was because I had just finished listening to the Scotland v Iran match in the World Cup and started tuning around the Medium Wave band on my Fidelity Transistor Radio.

Many months of listening to Radio Luxembourg followed, until my Grandfather gave me an old 1946 Murphy U102 Bakelite radio which had Shortwave on it.

Further expansion continued with various receivers including the Grundig Satellite 1400SL, my favourite the Trio R-2000, Lowe HF-225, AOR 7030+ and eventually the Icom RC-75.

Life got in the way for a while and I started listening again during the Pandemic by using SDR receivers all over the world.

In November 2022 I took the plunge and got my Foundation License and became MW7LSW, I worked many SOTA stations whilst parked on my local mountains.

In April 2023 I passed my Intermediate Exam becoming 2W0YSW and treated myself to my first HF Transceiver.

In January 2024 I passed my Class1 UK Full Licence and obtained my GW5GDP Call Sign.

I would love to receive your QSL Card either through eQSL, via the Bureau or Direct and I will reply to all cards received.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

My HF & 6m working condition is a Yaesu FT-710 running up to 100w (although I enjoy seeing what I can work on 10w), and my antenna is just an OCFD which is 10m in length and just 3m above the ground.

For VHF/UHF at Home I use an Alinco DR-735e with a Diamond X50 at about 5 metres.

For 2m Mobile I use a Yaesu FT-2980r with either a 5/8 whip or a Jetfon SG-7900 7/8 antenna
