Biography

May 8th 2015 marks the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day), this special event call sign will be used as a celebration of the 70th Anniversary.

The town of Burnham on Crouch was very active in the war effort and the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club where GB4VED will operate from was part of HMS St Matthew.

In 1943 the Navy commissioned the riverside at Burnham as HMS St Matthew ostensibly as a mine depot but in reality it was used for training army and marine personal in use of Landing Craft. The best known commander was Captain Danes and the his men included ten RNVR Officers with 80 ratings making up two flotillas. Motor Torpedo boat bases were established in the River Blackwater at Osea Island and in the River Crouch at Burnham

For information about the commando training at Burnham and in particulat Creaksea Place refer to

GB4VED will operate on 60, 40 & 20 Meters and VHF/UHF
