Biography

Passed my C&G Amateur Radio exams in 1980 when I was 14 - finally got on air in February 2021!  Started with a bit of listening with a Yaesu FRG7700 but within weeks bought my first transceiver - a Yaesu FTdx-1200.  I ran this through a homemade fan dipole in my loft with elements for 10, 17, 20 and 40m, running via a homemade 1:1 balun.

Now sold the FRG7700 and the FTdx-1200 and bought myself a Kenwood TS-2000x with HF, 6m, 2m, 70cm and 23cm - hoping to get some VHF/UHF antennas up on my chimney in the near future.  Fan dipole is still working a treat on HF.

Mainly been using WSJTX on 40m and 20m - just trying to build the courage to use my voice at some point!

Other interests include making my own beer and also re-building and restoring vintage DEC PDP and VAX computers.  I also play bass in a rock band.

Worked DXCCs:

Kenwood TS-2000X
Homemade Fan Dipole - 10m, 17m, 20m 40m with homemade balun
