Got my C/S G3XBI in 1967, A.M. was still fairly popular !
& soon afterward my professional Full UK Marine Radio Officer Licence, followed by Panama and Liberian Licences. (Scroll to see image & bottom )
I served continuously as a seagoing Radio Officer from 1968 to 1980, mainly on Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) usually Norwegian registered vessels - Vesthav/Osthav and Sydhav also bulk carriers, North sea diving vessels and Oil Rigs & deep sea Trawlers.
1980 came ashore to work at PortisheadRadio/GKA HF ship to shore/air to ground and point to point station until closure in 1999, Since then I have worked on Trunked Radio “TETRA” PMR Radio systems.
Enjoy working on HF mainly on the key but also all Digital systems.
Interests : - travelling - mainly in North America, had the pleasure of visiting all US States and all but one Canadian province. Try to encompass Baseball games, favourite venues Oracle Park and Historic Fenway Park where I was lucky enough to see the Red Sox 100th game win in a season, the first time since 1946 !
Equipment
My Equipment is a mix of Racal Receivers and mainly homebrew transmitters (100)W
Aerials are various wire types.
Inverted L for Top band and 5 Mhz, Vertical for 80 and 30M, EFHW for 40.
Delta loop for 20M. 2 element Yagi for 6M, find useful an “Adjustiwave “ continuously variable vertical.
