Biography

Licensed as G3SNT in Oct. 1963 at age 15 years.

Almost exclusively HF CW operation though a wide interest in data modes and have been interfacing radios with computing since the early 80's.

FIST'S No: 14581

Now retired from a career in Science Education and have more time to enjoy this predominant hobby in addition to Natural History, Photography, Astronomy and the inevitable Gardening. Hi!!

Still manage to play a regular game of Squash after some 37 years of this addiction to resultant endorphins!

I enjoy a fairly quiet location for HF working though the surrounding hills limit my VHF/UHF "takeoff" to the South East of my QTH.

My best wishes to all those fellow Hams I have worked to date and in the future.

Equipment

The Shack comprises currently of Icom transceivers with the first choice for CW going to my "trusty" IC 7400.

I also use a Flex 1500 which in tandem with a fast Quad core PC is excellent for CW ops. I use the Elad-S1 SDR receiver for general monitoring using a variety of software as well as the excellent supplied package. The shack has two fully working analogue/valved receivers, an AR88 and a Drake 2B with accompanying Q Multiplier. The latter is frankly "awesome" for CW reception. It's nostalgia from working National Field Day back in the early 1960's when they were revolutionary!

A Yaesu FT817 is used for portable and mobile working along with a good selection of monoband antennas.

Main station antennas are verticals for 40, 20, 15 and 10 metres and a dipole for 5MHz sometimes peaked through a Kenwood AT230 ATU.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
