Biography

More often out portable than at home, either SOTA activations or VHF contesting.
See my G1YBB/P or GW1YBB/P pages here. I usually know my WAB square when out portable and my WAB book number is 10486.

G1YBB designed rotating mast coax loop free guying rings:
https://g1ybb.uk/g1ybb-coax-loop-free-guy-rings/

I'm also now doing some radio at home, mostly HF as I bought myself a lockdown mast and have made some antennas or used my SOTA dipoles.

At home my QRA is IO82PA and WAB square is SO43. Book number 10486.

Enjoyed a lot of VHF contesting in the late 80s and early 90s. Mostly operated as part of GW1VDF/P.
Later in the 90s did some contesting with G1YFC.

Just bought a shack in the box FT897D. Currently only operating from an internally mounted wire dipole for 20m and 25watts.
May also start some SOTA activating soon hopefully, and some WAB trig activations at the same time.

Update: Since using the FT-897D for some SOTA activations I have bought the lighter and smaller FT-857D, and have also been given an FT-817 which I shall use for more strenuous summit activations and QRP contesting.

Update 17-11-19: I now have an Icom trio of SDR radios, 7610, 9700 & 7300 which I think are all cracking radios. The 817 still sees action in Backpackers and PW QRP contests and the 857D had a run out for the RSGB Low Power contests but the Icoms get most use. 897D is now sold on due to not being used.

I have a nice and simple website, mobile friendly, with more information about past radio activities and also useful stuff I have found and added recently.

Equipment

For 144MHz/432MHz & 1296MHz my main rig is an IC-9700.
For 70MHz, 50MHz & HF I have Icom IC7610, IC7300, Yaesu FT-857D, and Yaesu FT-817.
