Biography

Hello and thank you for looking at my page, I am located in the small village of Wickwar on the edge of the Cotswold Hills in the West of England

The locator is IO81TO, WAB ST78 South Gloucestershire.

Now for a bit about myself, I was born in 1963 and live in Wickwar with my XYL Vicky and young son Robert, who hopefully will also become interested in radio when he is old enough. He already does a very impressive CQ call with my callsign, so if I sound very young, you will know who it is. I have always been interested in radio and communications, an interest triggered by my father who was also a radio amateur and keen constructor of equipment. I still have a television set he built in 1948, along with several radio receivers he built many years before, the oldest dating back to the 30's. I naturally developed an interest and have for a number of years worked in radio communications as an engineer, system designer and consultant.

Recently I have had a complete change of career, and decided to work for a charity helping people with learning difficulties.

Equipment

My station is quite simple and consists of a Yaesu FT847, which I use with a MD-1 microphone into a homebrew audio amplifier, and a Kenwood TS850, used with a condenser microphone, mainly for mobile and portable working.

I have several converted PMR sets including an Motorola MC Micro for 4 meters FM, a Philips for 6 meters FM, tuned for the repeaters. In addition there are two homebrew fast scan TV transmitters for 13 and 23cms, with a homebrew voice transmitter for 23cms.
