Hi and thanks for visiting G0UII on QRZCQ.

First licenced G7PNA in September 1993 following a Pass with Credit in the UK Radio Amateur Exam, earning my Full A Class Licence of G0UII in December 1993 following a Pass with Credit in the UK 12wpm CW exam. Became active again on Amateur Radio in 2008 after a break of 11 years, this to allow me time for my other great passion of racing Motocross Motorcycles in competition. Unfortunately injury ended my racing days and I now ride only 1000cc+ road going machines for my adrenalin fixes!!

Slowly rebuilt the station but suffered a disappointing setback, in that due to the location of my new QTH within the 'Green Belt' of Yorkshire's countryside, the Local Authority are positively Draconian in applying their severe planning restrictions and adamantly refuse to allow the erection of any masts or antennas on my property.......Welcome to the "Low Tech, Small Minded Kingdom of Great Britain", where Masts with Aerials frighten folk and Bureaucracy Red Tape has gone Mad!!.......Consequently I have had to be content with my modest and covert HF9V Multiband Vertical, although it does seem to work quite well despite the lack of height. I enjoy the challenge of my budget antenna though, especially having owned a 60' tower and HF beam antennas at my previous QTH.

All was not lost though, as fortunately a few years later I stumbled across a solution to sidestep these restrictions. By using a CLARK SCAM 12 Military Pump up Mast system supported by its own four legs, it cannot be regarded as fixed or permanent development due to its portable nature, so is not a matter the Local Authority is able to control under the UK Town and Country Planning Act. This has now enabled me to raise a Hexbeam antenna into the air without Local Authority reprisal.......RESULT!!

From the age of 16, I worked for 26 years as an Underground Coal Face Electrician in several of Yorkshire's Deep Coal Mines until the UK Conservative Government's systematic and deliberate decimation of the industry in 2005, thus leaving deep coal mining in the UK just a history lesson at school!! Consequently redundancy forced a change of career and I now work in the railway industry conducting electrical maintenance and repair of Yorkshire's commuter trains at a large motive power depot.

Other passions are my XYL Jeanette (Gnet), my Honda and MV Agusta Motorcycles, our German Shepherd dogs and our Whippet dogs, the former of which are not renowned for their good manners and are quite a handful to say the least! but are my personal 'Bodyguards', offering the best shack and motorcycle security available!!

I enjoy collecting QSL confirmations via LoTW, Bureau & Direct, all cards received will be replied to 100%. SWL Reports are very welcome also. (email for Direct Address if required)

***UPDATE 31/08/2021 ***

** All outgoing Bureau QSL Cards from G0UII were supposedly printed and sent by Global QSL. As of August 2021, it appears that the Global QSL company website has been closed down without explanation. I have paid for and sent many hundreds of Bureau Cards via this company but recently had suspicions that my cards were not being sent! I have not received any return cards from this company for a long time and can only assume now they have not been honouring their commitments to the many Radio Amateurs that paid and entrusted them to deliver. I therefore apologise if Bureau Cards from G0UII have not been received, I have no idea how many cards have actually made it through Global QSL, but I assure you they were all paid for in good faith and supposedly sent. All future outgoing Bureau Cards will now be sent via RSGB Bureau**
