Hi, and thanks for visiting Stephen, G0TYS on QRZCQ

Licenced in Amateur Radio as G0TYS in September 1993. My two sons are also licenced Amateurs with M3 call sins, but neither active at present. However, my wonderful partner Nicola has taken the educational plunge, joining the fold of Radio Amateurism, first with an M7 call and presently a 2E0 call.

I have worked from leaving school as an automobile mechanic, firstly with my father G0CEW, then establishing my own business specialising in maintenance and repair of Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, something I have found very rewarding.

I am fairly active throughout the HF bands most days and enjoy working DX on 40 and 80m most evenings. Unfortunately I have experienced the same problems as many other Amateurs around this area of Yorkshire, that the Local Authority are Draconian in applying severe planning restrictions regarding masts and antennas, so I have had to be content with my modest and covert Butternut HF9V antenna, which works extremely well but is no comparison to the 60' tower and HF beams I owned at my previous QTH..............Welcome to the "Low Tech, Small Minded, Kingdom of Great Britain" where aerials frighten folk and bureaucracy Red Tape has gone mad!!

Fortunately now, I have come across a solution to sidestep these restrictions. By using a CLARK SCAM 12 Pump up Mast system supported by its own four legs, it cannot be regarded as fixed or permanent development due to its portable nature, so is not a matter the Local Authority is able to control under the UK Town and Country Planning Act. This has now enabled me to hoist up the HEX Beam and a 5 Element 6m Beam into the air without fear of Local Authority reprisal..............RESULT!!

I occasionally work HF Mobile or digital VHF/UHF and somtimes have my Yaesu FT-991A or FTM-400XDE with me when I holiday abroad, giving me the opportunity to work ***/G0TYS and chat to the Amateurs back home............ whilst laid on the beach!!!

I enjoy collecting QSL Cards via Bureau & LOTW, all cards received will be replied to 100%. SWL Reports are very welcome also. (Please email for Direct Address if required)

Very Best 73's to all and look forward to your acquaintance on air.
