Biography

Hello everyone and thank you for looking me up..Presumably just worked my station on one of the bands..
Well this page needed an update so here goes. Feb 2021.
I have held a ham licence for nearly 45 years, Having passed my first licence in France as F1HIC, then progressed to FC1HIC ( new licence classification )Where I worked almost exclusively on VHF and UHF ATV 438,500 MOBILE. As my Job took me throughout Europe in the early years I worked VHF SSB mobile and with a rx ATV station that could receive on the move, made some of the first ATV contacts on mobile. in the late 1970's
Later I started running my own fully equipped vehicle for the CIVIL DEFENCE and ran several military exercises above and below ground sometimes for days at a time, monitoring up to 7 bands simultaneously + atv and recording all traffic. I also specialised in RTTY and would link up with other CIVIL DEFENCE and military stations from the field. ah the good old days.
I later left France to return to the UK ( my country of origin ) and became G1YEB joining the Bletchley park club GB2BP and helped run GB3MK and the local ATV repeater on 1200 mkz and 10,125 ghz. After passing my CW test i became M5AET a callsign i waited for as it was so easy and fast to transmit. My first HF radios were EX M.O.D SPY RADIOS.!! the famous MK 123 sets nicknamed the Harmonica. I logged up 30 countries with these great 20 watt radios often transmitting from hotel rooms using a hidden antenna dangled from a window..just as a spy radio should be operated..Great fun..Now since 2001 I am back in France, having served another 10 years in electronics and communications I have retired early through health problems, but now very active again on the ham bands.
I've sold my half size land-rover, visible on qrz.com.
And started it's replacement a half size SHERMAN M3A4, east eight.
All in steel and like the military lightweight land-rover ffr, it too will be equipped for hf comms.

Equipment

As an engineer I have designed (commercially) and use some of my own antenna designs.
At the moment erecting some new antennas for 21 mhz and 24 mhz, that are performing very well. VERTICAL 7/8 Loaded antennas.Actually just discovered that the 12 meter 5/8ths also works very well on 40 meters with just 1,4 -1 swr so it's now a dual bander...
My main base antennas are a 3 WINDOMS 45 meters long one is east west and the others are at 120 deg intervals giving front and back lobes every 60 deg.
They are designed around a natural resonant point at 300ohms so are perfect for the 11mm 75 ohm coax they are designed to use.

If you are interested in working me mobile or portable just email and I will give you a schedule for a possible hook up on 14,220. again look up QRZ.com for latest info.

IM not a qsl hunter, but will send QSL via email, if you do the same. then you can print one off.
Im always interested in long chats,so don't be shy give me a call. I also work CW up to 25 WPM and that includes mobile but at a lower speed.
Look forward to Contacting you soon. F5VHZ Colin
