Biography

Hi everyone. For those of you who don't know me let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Sean and I am 39 (getting on hi hi ) I live in the South-East Republic Of Ireland out in the countryside at the foothills of Mt. Leinster approximately 20km from Carlow town.
My interest in radio started in '94/95 after I got my first job. The crazy 40 was really active back then and most nights you could have 10 or 15 people on the same channel. My first radio was a little Euro-CB can't remember the model but it was an AM/FM set and when the skip was running channel 31FM was always full of European stations Dx'ing. This of course furthered my interest in the radio. I eventually moved up to a Ham Jumbo and then a President Lincoln and by the time I got my first RCI 2950 I had beams and all the gear for SSB use.

I lost all interest in the radio in the early years of the 2000's and had sold all the equipment and it was only when my xyl at the time brought me over to meet her dad who was on the radio for years and once I seen his radio BANG!! I was bitten again. This time around though I wanted to be able to use more frequencies than the few I could use non-licensed so I started to look to see how I could get my license. I bought the FT2000 and the FT857D in January 2011 and it was irritating not been able to use any of the bands apart from 11 metres. I joined the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group in 2011 to see if there was any way they could help me get my license but at the time there wasn't enough interest by people to run a class. But luckily in 2012 that changed.

In the early summer of 2012 the club decided to run a course for anyone that wished to do the exam for the license. The course was great fun learning all the things we needed to know to both pass the exam and also have a really good understanding about how electronics and aerials and all the other radio stuff worked. The exam was held in October and I passed. All the hard work and study had paid off and I have to mention all the people in SEARG and especially Mark (EI7IS) & David (EI6GVB) for all the time and effort they put in to help all the guys get their licenses.

Outside of radio my other main hobbies are shooting, fishing, motorsport and photgraphy. I also have a massive interest in Munster rugby and do often attend games in Thomond Park in Limerick. I love computers and also like to do some DIY and fix stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to read my biography and I look forward to having a QSO with you all somewhere around the HF bands soon. Take care of yourselves and each other.

73 de EI2HZB.
Sean.
