Biography
Hello and welcome to my page!
My name is José Luis, callsign EA4ITB.
I’m a retired Industrial Engineer, recently returning to the fascinating world of ham radio — a passion that has been part of my life for many years.
My interest in radio began thanks to my grandfather, who introduced me to the magic of the airwaves — distant signals, mysterious callsigns, and the thrill of reaching across borders with a Panasonic radio with SW. Those early moments sparked a lifelong curiosity for radio communication.
In the 1980s, I earned my EB4BOH callsign and was active in a modest way, mainly on CB and UHF bands. Those were years of experimentation, building and testing antennas, and enjoying the challenge of QSO.
In the 1990s I stepped away from ham radio due to professional commitments, but the passion never truly left. Now, with a new callsign, I’m back on the air with renewed enthusiasm, rediscovering a world that feels both familiar and new.
The ham radio landscape has changed dramatically over the years — digital modes, SDR technology, portable rigs, and online tools have transformed how we operate. I’m catching up like a newcomer in many ways, learning again and enjoying every bit of the journey.
At the moment, I’m using a Quansheng UV-K5(8), trying to get the most out of this small but capable handheld. I enjoy experimenting and learning, though I like to keep things simple and practical.
My main interests in ham radio:
- CW (learning): for its elegance and tradition.
- QRP: for the challenge of doing more with less.
- Antennas: a perfect mix of theory and experimentation.
- Light tinkering: just enough to keep curiosity alive without turning my shack into a lab.
For me, ham radio is a way to reconnect with my technical roots, the excitement of QSO, and the camaraderie of fellow operators who share the same passion for the airwaves.
Hope to meet you on the bands!
