About Me

The journey into amateur radio began in 1999, when I started as an SWL using the identification DE1BUH. In August 2005, I obtained my amateur radio licence and the callsign DO5HB.

My early DARC activities were with local chapter P35. After moving to Hesse, I later became active with local chapter F22.

Today, the station combines traditional amateur radio with modern technology. The main areas of interest include DXing and digital modes, as well as radio and antenna technology, software development, networking and station automation.
Station and Radio Equipment

The current station equipment includes a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V, Yaesu FT-890AT, Xiegu G90 and Xiegu D-19. The G90 is equipped with a thermostatically controlled cooling system for reliable operation.

The antenna system includes a range of antennas covering different bands and operating requirements:

15 m lattice tower

Hy-Gain TH3J-S

Flexa Yagi FX-233, 7 elements

Full-size end-fed antenna covering 160–10 m

GP-3 vertical antenna for 10, 15 and 20 m

additional VHF/UHF and satellite antennas

This combination provides flexibility across a wide frequency range and supports everything from local contacts to long-distance DX and digital operation.
Modes and Interests

A particular focus is placed on FT8 and digital amateur radio, complemented by FT4, SSB and other digital modes.

One of the most interesting aspects of the hobby is the combination of radio technology with modern computer and networking technology. This opens up many possibilities for monitoring, automating and individually configuring an amateur radio station.
Software and Station Automation

Wavelog is used for station logging and QSO management. In addition, I developed my own web-based station application called SuperCont.

SuperControl brings together the Yaesu FT-1000MP, CAT control, WS/WSJT-X, live FT8/FT4 decodes and ALL.TXT processing in a single web interface. The system also provides a waterfall display and real-time monitoring of S-meter, ALC, SWR and output power.

This provides a central interface for monitoring important station information and connecting the various components of the station.

Wavelog handles the actual QSO logging as well as the further processing and management of logbook data.

The overall goal is a well-integrated station in which radio equipment, antennas, software, logging and networking technology work together as seamlessly as possible.
