Biography

Hello, my name is Rainer, former DO8RP.

I live in Germany in the beautiful Weserbergland, very close to the Pied Piper town of Hamelin.

Since I was a child I've been interested in two things: Radios and the military.

Fortunately these two hobbies combine very nicely.

When I was growing up, I first had CB walkie-talkies and later the legendary Stabo SH-7000.

All my previous cars had a CB radio.

My current vehicle is an ex-British Army Land Rover Defender Wolf.

In 2017 I bought an ex-British Army Clansman PRC-320 HF Manpack radio from a friend.

This was the beginning of my amateur radio "career".

I registered for the exam in October 2017, studied hard and successfully passed the E (Novice)-license exam on January 24, 2018.

Since then the story has escalated a little bit...

I now have a small Clansman radio museum:

At home I usually use the modified VRC 321 or my YAESU FT-897.

My HF antenna is a MFJ-998RT antenna tuner with 28 meter wire antenna.

Out and about I like to set up the ex-British Army 11.4m Clark mast with a military HF multi-band antenna.

For the 2m / 70cm bands I use a Comet GP-9 antenna.

Meanwhile my son Erik is also licensed (DO1EPB) and we are both members of DARC OV H57 in Rinteln.

On 16.02.2024 I upgraded to A-Licence and my callsign changed from DO8RP to DM1RP

Ich wohne in Deutschland im schönen Weserbergland, ganz in der Nähe der Rattenfängerstadt Hameln.
Ich habe mich schon seit meiner Kindheit für zwei Dinge interessiert: Funken und Militär.
Diese beiden Hobbys lassen sich sehr schön verbinden.
Schon als Heranwachsender hatte ich erst CB-Walkie-Talkies und später dann die legendäre Stabo SH-7000. Alle meine bisherigen Autos hatten ein CB-Funkgerät.

Im Jahr 2017 habe ich von einem Bekannten ein Ex-British Army Clansman PRC-320 HF Manpack Funkgerät gekauft.
Dies war der Beginn meiner Amateurfunk – „Karriere“.
Ich habe mich im Oktober 2017 zur Prüfung angemeldet, fleißig gelernt und am 24. Januar 2018
erfolgreich die Prüfung zur E-Lizenz abgelegt.

Seitdem ist die Geschichte ein klein wenig eskaliert…
Mittlerweile hat sich bei mir ein kleines Clansman Radio-Museum angesiedelt:

Zu Hause benutzt ich meistens das modifizierte VRC 321 oder mein YAESU FT-897

Als Antenne nutzte ich einen CG-300 Antennentuner mir einer 28 Meter Drahtantenne.

Unterwegs baue ich gerne den Ex-British Army 11.4m Clark Mast mit militärischer
HF-Multibandantenne auf.

Für die 2m / 70 cm Bänder nutze ich eine Comet GP-9 Antenne.

Mittlerweile ist auch mein Sohn Erik lizensiert ( DO1EPB ) und wir beide sind Mitglied im DARC OV H57 in Rinteln.
