Biography

I was born British and now hold dual citizenship. Having lived in Bavaria for more than half of my life and managed Europe for a number of multinational businesses through my career, I consider myself to be a true European.

Original Callsign was G8DAY, first used around 1968, in Worcester, England.
Inactive between 1984 and June 2024 due to move to Germany, work requiring travel all over the world, and bringing up 4 children.
Reactivated G8DAY and was issued DK8DAY in 2024 after retirement.
Alternative location periodically in JO56HE Denmark first as OZ/DK8DAY, now licensed as OZ8DAY since March 2025.

Active mostly on HF with the digi-modes and SSB, checking 6M for openings most days. On 2M SSB & digimodes now and then. 2M and 70cm FM / repeater, hand held or mobile, round and about my home QTH and on the road to Denmark. There are many repeaters on or near the mountains within range of my home QTH, but I am not a regular user.

Now catching up after 40 years off-the-air.

Sorry, but I have not yet got around to sending or receiving QSL cards. I can provide email confirmation if you are desparate but frankly there are plenty of alternatives for Germany. Never-the-less, I very much appreciate your contact.

Thanks for visiting my page and for all of the fun.

Equipment

Equiment:

For HF - Sommerkamp FTDX150 is now also retired and has been replaced with the amazing Yaesu FT710.

For 2M - a 45 year old Trio TR-7010 still in fine working order.

VHF/UHF handheld.

23cm RX with SDR.

Antennas:

Germany (480M a.s.l.):
40M and 30M full size, low hanging trapped "Inverted V". Too close to the house but works quite well.
Hybrid 15M & 17M trapped dipole paralleled in fan configuration with a 20M dipole at 5Mtr. above ground.
10M End-fed Vertical halfwave at 5Mtr. My best antenna! I have found it to also work well on 12M and 20M for DX.
6M Moxon.
6 Ele.2M Yagi
5 Ele.70Cm Yagi.
23cm 6 x loop and a bi-quad (RX only so far)

Denmark (6M a.s.l.):
All bands 10M through 80M, vertical random wire on 10M fiberglass pole.
17M & 15M 1/4 wave vertical with sloping radials at 6.5Mtr. above ground
10M & 12M Horizontal dipole 6Mtr. above ground.
6M T2LT type 1/2 wave vertical at 6Mtr. above ground.
6 Ele. 2M Yagi 6Mtr. above ground.
5 Ele.70Cm Yagi.
