Biography
I got interested in the hoby as a kid listening to shortwave stations on my father's Knight-Kit Spanmaster regenerative receiver in the early 1970's.
I was first licensed in 1979 in northern Indiana as KA9DHN and was using a Heathkit HW-16 cystral CW rig. Let that license expire and got back into the hobby in 1989 and re-tested, passing my Novice and Technician in the same day. Got the Novice call KB9DDX until my Technican license arrived a few days later as N9IXG. I spent most of my time back then on 10m, 2m, and 70cm. Got out of the hobby in the early 1990's after getting married.
After a 20-year sabbatical, I decided to get back into the hobby and passed my General and Extra in the same day, finally getting the call AE5XN after moving to Texas from Indiana in the late 1990's.
Enjoy working AM mode on 75m and 10m, SSB on 80m-6m, and PSK31 on the HF bands.
Also enjoy working sporadic E on 6m SSB.
Hope to see you on the air sometime!
