Biography

I have been hamming off and on sense 1967. Although I had an interest in radio electronics at an early age I had no one to guide me along so I learned all I could on my own. I built my first crystal radio at 12 yrs. old. Received my first formal radio training while in the Army ( 1961 to 1969). In the early 1960’s Heathkit teamed up with the Cleveland Institute of Electronics and produced a home study course for radio electronics. This home study course and the Army Signal School gave me a good start in the radio electronics field. After serving a tour in Vietnam I returned home to the 4th Army Head Quarters in San Antonio. There I was assigned to the 4th Area Army Mars Station. For nearly 12 months I worked HF phone patches for service members in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. After 8 years in the service I decided to go back to school and earn a BA degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. My interest in radio flared up again while working for Xerox and I earned my first call sign, KB5VMA, in 1991. Sense then I have worked under several other calls signs, K5KMR, WC5TX and my current amateur extra call of AC5EZ. I have lived in the Dallas, Texas area most all my life and I now live in the small suburb of Oak Point, Texas. You can find me most evenings on 40 meters around 7185 KHz usually on the OMISS net (OMISS # 9589) or the 3905 CC net. I also work 10 meters (10-10 # 64388) when the band is open.

Hope to here you on the bands.

73,

Ken, AC5EZ
