Biography

SKCC nr 20094

Hi from Bowdon Jucnction, Georgia.

I was born down the road in Atlanta and raised Douglasville, GA.

Spent a couple of tours in SE Asia at the end of the Viet Nam conflict.

I was trained as a Morse Intercept Operator, Signals Traffic Analysis, Direction Finding, Signal Search and Development, and the normal US Army soldier and leadership skills.

Towards the end I was working on a station with 4 Collins R-390 HF Recievers, a KSR input terminal, 2 reel-to-reel tape recorders, and paper tape capability.

My sections main mission was to monitor where the Vietnamese Air Defense units were tracking the flights of the US Air Force aircraft over Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Okinawa etc...

They would track all of the US Aircraft, but my specialty was monitoring the drones that flew over the DMZ, the U-2 that flew primarily over the Gulf of Tonkin, and the SR-71 and A-12s that flew anywhere they wer needed.

Also trained by some of the "old timers" to copy the Chinese and Russian air defense nets up on the Sino-Soviet border.

Finished up my Army service as a Helicopter Test Pilot for Hueys (UH-1), Cobra (AH-1), and Blackhawk (UH-60).

Worked in the Aerospace industry and got my FCC First Class Radiotelephone Operator License with Ship's Radr Endorsement, my bachelors in Electronics, and my Ham license (KD4IVV). Later upgraded to Amateur Extra Class (AC4OW).
