Biography

My family and friends call me Dave or David, please do the same.

I was first licensed as WN4QYK in 1976. I passed the Technician class and was issued WA4QYK that same year. I upgraded to General and Advanced in 1977. I finally passed the Extra class test in 2008. I had several people influence and help me get started in Amateur radio. My father-in-law John W4ZGA (SK) taught me a lot about electronics including correct soldering technique. John W4FMH (SK) helped me with radio theory and administered my first test. Gary W4CBX (SK) has been a long time tutor and is still trying to improve my electronic skills. Bunky K4EJQ taught my first amateur radio theory class and has been a long time mentor.

I've got Tennessee Contest Group (TCG) and Bristol Amateur Radio Club (BARC).

I have tried most amateur radio operating modes over the last 50+ years. I enjoy contesting and DXCC. I operate Digital, CW and Phone . I also enjoy weak signals operating on VHF and UHF bands. I am currently active on all bands from 50 MHz to 2304 MHz.

I respond to all QSL requests. I prefer the Log Book of the World. I also answer QSL direct, SASE with direct requests is appreciated, but not mandatory. I do not currently use E-QSL.

I hope to work with you on the bands!

73,

Dave
