Biography

I was born in the UK, where I was first licenced as G4MRE from 1981 to 1985. I have been a permanent resident in Singapore since 2009. After a gap of nearly 40 years I returned to our hobby in 2022 and took over the callsign 9V1SA.

OMs may remember Vincent Foong, Silent Key, and previous holder of callsign 9V1SA who passed away on 1 November 2015. Vincent was for many years the esteemed incoming QSL manager for the Singapore Amateur Radio Transmitting Society. While I never met Vincent, it's an honour to keep his callsign active. I also like to remember Ron Hough G3XTN (SK) who taught me Physics and Morse Code in my teens. They say there's always one teacher you remember, and Ron, you're at my fingertips every time I touch a key. I only hope I can inspire the next generation in the same way.

Equipment

QTH limitations mean I can largely only operate ~5W digital modes using QRP labs QDX & QCX-mini rigs into a stealth fan dipole or /P into a 1m magloop.
