Biography

Welcome to my qrzcq.com bio page, and thank you for dropping by.

I have been interested in radio since an early age, listening to SW and marvelling at how those signals travel the world and beyond. Around 2015, I met Kevan (2E0WMG), who encouraged me to take this interest further and with his support and the excellent teaching resources of Colchester Radio Amateurs (CRA), I gained my Foundation licence as M6GNC, in February 2019, and went on to get my Intermediate licence in April 2019. I could not have done this without the encouragement, advice and patience of several people, not least my wife, Jenny, who supported me and listened intently to my small, yet incremental, achievements.

With CRA, I recently operated as GB6NT during ILLW 2019, at Naze Tower, Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex, mentored by Garry (M0MGP) and Jonathan (G0DVJ), learning to manage pile-ups, and achieving around 25 QSO's including my first transalantic QSO with W9OO.

Occasionally, so as to enjoy the wonderful coastal scenery, and absence of urban and domestic noise, I operate as 2E0FIO/P from Packing Marsh Island, a very small island on which the Packing Shed (an oyster packing shed, first built around 1890) is situated.

I am also trying to get to grips with FT8 and other data modes, wondering why some days they work fine, and others...

I have learned much from my mentors, and also by listening to some quality operators whose relaxed yet disciplined style aspires me to be as good.

I look forward to enjoying a QSO with you in the near future.

Equipment

I am still a raw beginner, operating at a licenced maximum power of 50W with an Icom IC-7300, and an HF-360 vertical.

I have yet to venture into 2m and 70cm, although I enjoy listening to local QSOs with my handheld Baofeng UV-5R.
