Biography

The beacon went QRT in February 2025 after some 46 years of service and for decades was the only amateur radio beacon in Antarctica. Rothera base is being refurbished and expanded and the building housing the beacon, new in 1979, is being removed. My thanks to a large number of techs and hams on base that kept the beacon alive for so many many years under adverse conditions - 73 Laurence KL7L VP8SB, original installer and licensee VP8ADE
