Biography

B.1954 and recently retired - Living in England near to the town of Bolsover with both the Derbyshire Peak District and Sherwood Forest nearby

I have been a lifelong listener to Radio and my interest began in my teenage years when I had the pleasure of listening to RADIO LUXEMBOURG most evenings and RADIO CAROLINE and other pirate stations. I went to college and after studying hard I earned a degree in Physics and Chemistry. I then shortly afterwards changed direction in life and became a serving Police Officer for 30 yrs - using radios every day(VHF & UHF) for communication.

In March of 2020 I decided to join RSGB and further my interest by studying for the Foundation Licence and joined a local radio club. After I had attended JUST ONE MEETING along came the worldwide pandemic and the country became LOCKED DOWN so my study was limited to self teaching and tution via online resources. I spent 2 months listening via a tiny Baofeng UV 5R for which I built a simple ground plain antenna for 2m (using items sourced online). This was a big success and doubled the listening reach of my tiny radio friend. I studied hard and in Mid May I sat and passed foundation exam and entered the world of Ham radio. The PTT button was now legally operated being the proud owner of the callsign M7OJS

The second radio I treated myself to is RETEVIS RT95 that I use as a base station for 2m and 70cm local rag chews both simplex and via local repeaters - I also take this portable with a quad band Mag Mount

I use ECHO LINK (538179), PEANUT and DUDESTAR to make QSO around the world and met some incredible radio people.

I have a G7RPG Analogue - All Star Node (52204) which gives me full acces to UK and worldwide nets and the many reflectors repeaters and individuals who make up that worldwide network that joins most of the digital systems

The latest addition to my radio family is XIEGU G90 SDR Transceiver for which I have strung out an end Fed antenna that lets me capture all HF bands (brilliant for all digital modes)
I operate portable most days using this radiousing just 15w into vertical antennas

Having passed the Uk Intermediate Licence examination my call sign has changed to become 2E0JJS AND IN ~oCTOBER 2025 IT CHANGED TO M8JJS

I will continue to study and learn I have recently become a volunteer remote examinations invigilator to help the RSGB to bring other newcomers into this great diverse hobby and help other Hams to progress using Online resources

I do not chase awards but am proud to display "The World Radio Friendship Award"
I am an active POTA ACTIVATOR regularly operating from within local Country parks

My current build project is a UBITX V6 QRP transceiver which will keep me busy during the winter months - lets hope those sunspots get active and help us all get moving on HF
