Biography

IT security tech and tech author professionally. Hobbies are many: amateur cook, wine fan, New Orleans Saints NFL season ticket holder, NRA Distinguished Expert and pistol instructor, etc. I've been a ham radio operator since early 2020. Somewhat paradoxically, I got my Technician license about a month before the pandemic hit in full swing. Been enjoying learning more every day here and have most recently passed the Amateur Extra exam in June 2023.

I enjoy the digital modes greatly, especially when they involve actual human interaction like VarAC, JS8Call, and Winlink.

Always thinking about emergency communications needs. I run my station on solar much of the time. I also run an alternate NCS for Winlink Wednesday every week.

Equipment

QTH rig is an Icom IC-7100 with a Chameleon EmComm III Base antenna for 160-6 meter operations, and an Arrow 2m/70cm dipole for VHF/UHF. I also have a couple of 2m Yagis in my attic pointed at a couple of important (to me) repeaters and my wife's office.

For mobile, I have an Icom IC-7200 and a gaggle of HTs.
