Biography

My curiosity as a second grader was piqued when I asked my father "If they can send music to us using radio, why can't we talk back by radio?"

"If you learn what it takes to get a Ham Radio License, you can do that! But those people are really a strange lot."

Undeterred, I looked into Ham Radio and was eventually licensed KC4ZTP in about 1992. I was one of the first no code technician licensees.

An interesting aspect of Ham Radio is the diversity of people who participate. While visiting a MARS radio station at an off-shore military base, I had the privilege of speaking one time with JY1. I'll let you research who that was if you don't already know. I've talked to Chet Atkins (SK) a Nashville repeater, Trisha Yearwood, 40 meters and Barry Goldwater, MARS. I occasionally get to participate in JOTA.

I was Elmered by Al Patrick, then WA4URT. Currently W4LDBi if memory serves. If not, I'll fix that soon.

I like to;"breadboard" antennas. I even built the UHF LPA that I used for TV in England. But I still had to buy a TV license. D don't have to watch to require a license. An antenna and a broke TV required the license when I was there.
