Biography
My interest in radio was started by seeing a small advertisement in Boy's Life magazine for a short wave receiver (Hallicrafters). I had an "Elmer" nearby who helped me get my Novice license, WN0ACF, at Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, in 1961.
Amateur radio in high school got me interested in electrical engineering at the University of Missouri - Rolla, a four year enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, two-way FM / mobile / handheld design at Motorola and E.F.Johnson, followed by 22 years in military displays and commercial navigation equipment (ring laser gyros) for aircraft. Meanwhile, I continued my USAF service in the Minnesota Air National Guard, ground radio installer, for eighteen years.
I have always favored CW, Field Day and CW Sweepstakes, but I like the digital modes also. I enjoy building station accessories and restoring the radios that I liked early in my radio days. There is always something new to learn!
