Biography

I am a retired Dentist getting back into ham radio. I was originally WN6UPK in 1964. I was born and raised in Fresno, California, located in the heart of California’s San Joaquin Valley. I attended the University of California at Berkeley (Genetics/Chemistry), UCLA (Dentistry), USC ( Higher Education and Prosthodontics) . I practiced Dentistry in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach, CA for ~45 years. My family is in the grape farming business where we make raisins and/or wine grapes on 80 acres of sandy farmland in Biola, CA. The shack is now located in Costa Mesa, CA (Orange County, Southern California, a few miles from the sandy beaches of Huntington Beach(“Surf City”) and Newport Beach). My other lifelong avocation is aviation. I’ve been flying since 1976 and am the proud owner of a Cessna 310R with a state-of-the-art, Garmin digital touchscreen avionics panel. Some common destinations from KSNA (JWA) are: Baja (Mexico), Utah, Las Vegas, Reno, San Fran, Catalina Island, Lake Tahoe, Big Bear Lake, Palm Springs, Monterey, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Fresno. Shiny, glossy, paper QSL cards are treasured by me and appreciated. Tnx, 73. “Don”
