Biography

Attended first Ham Radio course in my native Serbia in 6th grade after a school visit to a Community Center, when they presented their clubs and instructional classes, in 1979. Earned first C class license after the course, in mid spring next year. At the time that allowed me to operate from a club station YU1AID, then YU1AOD, with 200 W CW and SSB on 3.5 and 7 MHz. AID had Windsor antenna, AOD had full dedicated dipole for each band. I loooved contacting DX stations on cold winter nights! Earned B class license just days after my 18th birthday, and got my own call sign YU1SE, and a permission to own and operate a ham rig from home, and operate at 20, 15 and 10 m HF bands. What a day!!!

I moved to the USA in 1997 to pursue science, and ultimately worked at UC Berkeley, developing large scale data systems for air pollution science. Ever since I moved to the USA it's been a dream to get the license. I can't justify the delay, but last weekend I finally went for it and got Tech and Gen. I aim for Adv next time the test is offered.

I work mostly QRP with scaled antennas. If you hear me, please ask, I'll provide info on what's in use at the moment.
