Biography
I have always wanted to be a ham operator, but this year I finally pulled the trigger, bought a couple of my Great Uncle's rigs (Kenwood TS-820 with MC-50 mic, external VFO and speaker/Yaesu FT-757GXMark I with matching power supply and tuner), and took the plunge.
I got my Technician's license in June, 2013, got my General upgrade July 21 and am working to have my Extra one of these days. I'm also using a Kenwood TS-480SAT and enjoying learning more every day!
I try to get all over the bands just to see who's on, but most of the time I'm listening to 20 m and 40 m. I'll either be on an 88' endfed wire antenna that's located in my front yard, or I'll be on a homebrew dipole that's stretched from the back to the front yard (especially if it's on 80m). I just enjoy experimenting!
I'm a Christian of almost 40 years (grew up in a Southern Baptist minister's home with strong, loving Daddy who knew how to preach and to live what he preached and with a Mother who was a Sunday School teacher). Thankfully knowing Jesus has been the greatest thing I've ever accomplished. Anything else that I do I do it with His help and leading.
If you don't know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I'll be glad to talk to you about Him and what He's done in my life. The way things are in the world today I'd be surprised if we're around very much longer on this Earth, so you might want to find out about Him before it's too late. If it wasn't for His love and His coming to the world to live, to be crucified, to rise after dying on a cross and out of an enclosed grave in a bodily resurrection from the dead, and the fact that He promises to guide us now and into eternal life, I'd have no hope whatsoever.
Think that sounds crazy? Read more in the book of John to see how His life here on Earth was the greatest set of events ever recorded. I didn't write it - God did.
