Biography

About me:

Happily married to Terri (KF4VNT) and my son Alex (KO4DRV) recently became licensed.

For those of you who have talked to me and are curious or confused about my name "Chuck"... it is just a "nickname" I have had since I was a kid. There is a bit of a story behind the nickname but you'll have to ask me in a QSO to get that :)

I've been involved with radio since I was a young child when my father was a very active CB operator. I became very active in CB myself when I was 19 progressing to working a good deal of DX on SSB. I discovered ham radio not long after that but never could master the code to pass the test. I finally became a licensed ham in 1995 after the "No Code Tech" license was offered and love it. There have been periods when life got in the way of spending much time on the radio but I always come back!

I'm currently most active on 2m and 70cm and can usually be found monitoring our local 147.045 (and 147.360) Lumberton NC RCARS repeaters and the N4DBM 444.575 repeater in St Pauls. I also frequent N4DBM's other 2m and 70cm repeaters in the area. More about his repeaters can be found HERE.

After many years of interest in the 1.25m (220mhz) band, I have finally added this to my capabilities and am usually monitoring the 224.160 in Raleigh/Auburn, 224.920 in Lumberton, 224.540 in Kelly, and N4DBM's 224.380 in Elizabethtown.

I am a former Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Robeson County NC ARES, Advanced SkyWarn certified, and typically very active during severe weather events.
