| Biography I obtained my Technician ticket in early 2019 and advanced to Extra on Field Day 2019. I am a retired U.S. Navy Captain and work part time as a physician and a forensic consultant. We live in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. It is very rural and we often lose power, telephone, cell phone, and internet. I decided that local 2M repeaters would fill that communication void. From there the progression to HF and digital modes seemed like a natural thing to do. I currently monitor on 20M and 40M evenings and weekends. With "100 watts and a wire" I have worked with Central and West Coast U.S. States as well as much of Canada and Alaska as well as Central Europe. I also put up a "skywire" horizontal loop soon to pick up 80M as well. It works NVIS on 80 meter and 40 meter, as well as DX on 40 meter and 20 meter across Canada, Eastern Europe and Australia. Late in 2019 I added a Kenwood TS 990S; I like the looks, features, and "Kenwood audio". At about 55 pounds (25 kilo) it is a modern day "boat anchor".
