Biography

I've been an amateur since 1965, at the age of 15 as WN2YII. I cut my teeth on 40 meter CW building my own 40 meter rig hooked to a center-fed 40 meter dipole. Worked the band late at night and experienced the thrill of DX. Took Technician test and became WB2YII. Focused my attention on 2 meters with a stacked beam and vertical polarization. Operated a TX62 and a Hallicrafter's HQ110 VHF. My ham radio days kind of took a back seat during this time as I was preoccupied with raising 2 children and focusing on my career.
I became re-acquainted with ham radio upon my retirement and just recently picked up a used Icom. Installed an End Fed Dipole and began my second life of amateur radio. Oh and by the way, we moved from 2 land in 1990 and recently requested a Vanity Call in 3 land using my initials. K3JPF.

More recently I have began to build my shack by adding an Icom 7300, a BaoFeng 82 HP, and a Radioddiy GD77 to begin exploring DMR. Along with the equipment upgrades, I began experimenting with software for Logging and Software Defined Radio (SDR) programs to enhance my experience.

In November of 2021, I upgraded my license and am now an Amateur Extra.
