Biography
Hi. Here's a little about me. I live in the town of Mamou, Louisiana (pronounced mah-moo).
I'm a U.S. Army Signal Corp Veteran. HHC 199th Supp. Batt. to the 256th Mech. Inf. Louisiana National Guard, 1997-2003.
I'm a Law Enforcement Veteran and am now a Louisiana Department of Corrections Master Sergeant where in I am a Trip Officer.
In my early teens I got into CB radios. It was part of the reason I joined the Army, but my unit had no openings for radio operator. I was offered computer networking, which was also Signal Corp, so I took it. While in my unit, I was still doing a lot of radio operating since I was in the Signal Regiment.
I had an interest in Amateur Radio since my mid-20s. I finally decided to obtain my license. I got my Technician on 1/18/25. On 2/25/25 I got my General.
I currently run a simple setup. I use a Xiegu G90 for my HF and a Baofeng AR-5RM for my VHF/UHF. Since there are no local 20m/70cm operators for simplex operation nor any local repeaters, I use Echolink. The Boafeng radio runs into a TRAM 1477 2m/70cm vertical groundplane (at 30 ft. up). The G90 runs through a 3 way switch to my two homemade 1/2 wave dipoles (tuned for 10/11 meters) in the horizontal position (at 30 ft. up) for all my HF DX work along with an identical homemade 1/2 wave dipole set up in a vertical dipole position for local work as well as DX if needed for DX signal shift as well as a GOOZEEZOO 8010 EFHW (64:1 UNUN at 30 ft. up) in a sloper configuration.
Thank you for checking my profile. Maybe we'll QSO at some point.
