Biography

I've been a radio enthusiast since my teens, and worked as a radio communications engineer and later manager (with Pye/Philips 1978-1991, TIA PLC 1991-1992, Police Service 1992-2014) until 2014 when I left employment to set up my own IT business. I was originally licensed as G1CRO in the mid 1980's, working on VHF and UHF bands only, using homebrew or ex PMR equipment. I have never owned a 'black box'! I studied Morse Code and having passed the test first time, applied for a Class A license and in 1992 I became G0NFY. I discovered that Morse, which had I originally seen as just a means to the end of getting my A ticket, opened up a fascinating new world that could be worked with very simple equipment; and it became a passion that I still have now.

Equipment

I use Homebrew QRP CW rigs and ex-military equipment- I have a WS62 and my most recent acquisition the wonderful Clansman PRC320. I have a long wire antenna running down the garden that tunes up and seems to get out fine on 40 30 and 20m, and with lower efficiency on 80m.
