Biography

Formerly KB3VQZ , AB3NK, and WD3D.

I started out sitting on my dad's lap when I was just a kid around 1969 and moved on to shortwave listening - my whole life.
I experimented with radio receivers and antennas and graduated to Car Stereo Competition - where I ruined my hearing.
Stockcar racing and outdoorsman - hunting and fishing was my passion for many years, but now I cannot walk.
I like to operate 6 meters SSB phone when the band is open and I do a lot of my best work on 10m SSB phone.

I enjoy the occasional rag chew on CW, but I only know my letters and numbers, so I am quite limited as to my skills CW.

I own a old Navy Flame Proof Key - 1962, Bunnel that I use all the time.

I also have a old Vibroplex bug = 1962, but I am not fast enough to use it.

When I was a kid, I had a lot of the older kit gear and some more modern radios, and I spent a fair amount of time listening to programmable scanners. For several years I had a very nice set up, complete with beam antennas and pre amplifiers and could hear most anything in Western PA.

Now I play a little with the ISS, made over 100 contacts in just one week, which I am very proud of. I can be heard late at night usually in the 80m dx window.

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
