Biography

I was licensed in 1991 along with my wife N5UTI (recently SK). I have recently jumped back into Amateur Radio in a big way. I have purchased a Retevis 52, FT3DR and an Anytone 878UV+ for portable. A Flexradio 6600 for HF, Ameritron 811H Amplifier and an FTM-400 for my shack.

I recently added a Hermes Lite 2.0 and have been making a lot of contacts with it on FT8. The Hermes Lite is a blast to operate and fun to set up. I have been adding Amps to it including the KP-990 and MX-P50M.

Portable I use the Yaesu FT-891 and now a DX Commander Expedition.

Mobile I run a Xeigu G90 and FTM-400 in the van shown below and an Icom 7100 in my other vehicle. Primary antennas mobile are Ham Sticks for the bands I am working. It is simply amazing how many stations you can hear and work sitting next to the lake or in the park.

Antennas at the shack are the DX Commander, and an MFJ-1886 6 Meter Moxon.

I also recommend the ZL1BQD coil for the DX Commander to obtain the full 80m band.

I have been interested in FT8, JS8CALL, SSB, Wires-X, DMR and DSTAR. My passion is antenna experimentation and it is one of the great joys of the hobby for me.

It is a joy to participate in such an international hobby. I feel we are all friends with a common love of radio. 73 and hope to see you on the air.
