Biography

Most of the detail is on QRZ.org. i had some friends at school in the 50's that were Hams but i didn't get very far with it then but was always interested and was a SWL and i listened in to HAMS using voice when I could. But with the country lifestyle and making a living, I was married with 3 kid in the late 70 before i got a Novice License. But my main objective then was to gain 2 meters for better information and safety on the road. I had area wide routes in Western Colorado and Utah and made friends on repeaters along the way. I was a Novice/Tek for about 6 years until i upgraded in the spring of 1984 and have kept my call every since. Before cell phone i came up on quite a number of accidents and help situations where 2 meters was often the only service for help available from the location. In the 80's i was running coast to coast and usually all the way across with plenty of time for Ham Radio. I was using a Atlas 350XL usually on 40 meters and a HR2510 for 10M in the daytime. There were always an envelope full of card when i got back home but i have never had a card read and everything now is threw LoTW., I think my most enjoyable times in Ham Radio was while being Mobile Mode with plenty of time for it and helped pass the miles. in the 90's i was a Leased Operator hauling petroleum products for about 20 years. Me and my oldest son had our own Authority, Calhoun Hauling, and mostly flatbed operations in the western states. Later on was a Terminal Manager for a couple of freight companies, before my wife became severely disabled and am now a full-time care giver caring for her. Nets and such don't work out well because i have to jump out at any minute to care for her. I can set in and out of a Contest or Digital Modes better that i can drop quickly to care for her. I am now parked at the end of the long road.... 73..KDØQG.. Charlie
