Biography

I was first licensed in 1971 when I was in the first grade of high school(JA1YHQ, Kofu,Yamanashi Pref.) , and had been active primarily in DXing through my high school/university days (I was licensed as KA0BSI during my enrollment in EE, ISU (Ames, Iowa) in 1977-78, but no QRV.). However, I gradually became inactive due to my family obligation and jobs including assignments abroad(Germany (Frankfurt am Main) and UK (London)) and finally went to QRT.

After many years of QRT, I got my amateur radio station license reissued in January, 2015 with the same callsign assinged in 1971 which was not fortunately reassigned to anyone else at the time of my application (an operator license does not expire in Japan, but a station license needs to be renewed every five years at Bureau of Telecommunications, otherwise it expires with its callsign.).

The current antenna system is rotatable dipoles for lower HF bands (except for 160m with a reduced half sloper), a 4 element quintuple band Yagi for higher HF bands, and 6 element modified HB9CV for 6m band on the crank-up tower as well as a GP for U/V bands at my first station in Shiroi city. I also operate at my second station in Sousa city near the beach where I use the rotatable dipole for 40m/WARC bands, the bent wire sloper for 160m, the 4 element tri band Yagi for 20/15/10m bands and the 8 element Yagi for 6m band. I may call you with whom I had a QSO before and who do not want to have the second QSO on a same band by digital mode, but please bear in mide I may be calling you from one of the other stations(locations).

I operate mainly for DX QSOs on HF bands by FT8/CW/SSB/RTTY, but also enjoy QSOs with JA/DX stations by FM/DV/C4FM and D-STAR/WIRES-X communications on 144/430/1200MHz bands. I set up my own node and ROOM in WIRES-X system in December, 2016.

I always enjoy reading YOUR page on QRZ.COM, when I have QSO with YOU, by which I feel more connected with YOU than just only exchanging numbers. Please write anything you like there hopefully with some photos. Please also instruct whether or not I can send my paper QSL card for you via the Buro. Otherwise, I will confirm QSO only by LoTW.

I look forward to meeting you on the air or through the wire.

PS. I also enjoy playing golf! :-)

Equipment

The current antenna systems at the primary shack are rotatable dipoles for lower HF bands (except for 160m with a reduced half sloper), a multi-band Yagi working as 4 elements for each higher HF band, and 6 element Yagi for 6m band on the crank-up tower. I normally run around 200-500W by TS-990 with a linear amplifier for DX QSO, but could QRO upto 1KW - legal limit output when necessary - chasing a rare station. However, I also love to operate by QRP with FT-818ND by mobile at nice locations.
